The Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Hradec Králové was the first newly founded university in our country after the Second World War. It was originally founded as a branch of the Faculty of Medicine in Prague. In 1951, the branch was transformed into the Military Medical Academy. After the abolition of the Academy in 1958, Military Medical Research and Training Institute of J. E. Purkyně was created from the Military Departments and the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové became a full-time faculty of the UK (Charles University).

The faculty provides education in Master degree courses in General Medicine, Dentistry in both Czech and English and Nursing in a Bachelor programme. In postgraduate studies, it guarantees education throughout a wide range of doctoral study programs. The faculty has become a place of study for students from different countries from around the world ranging from Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Malaysia, USA and Ireland to India and Pakistan.

The Faculty of Pharmacy of Charles University (UK) in Hradec Králové was established in 1969. It has an irreplaceable function in the educational structure and in the field of special scientific activity. At the beginning, classes took place under provisional conditions in the formerly regional town in 16 places. Teaching was often solved in block form and took place on Saturdays and Sundays.

The faculty has undergone many changes. Since the 1994/1995 academic year, foreign students have been studying in English. In addition to the traditional Master’s degree in pharmacy, there is currently a Bachelor’s degree program in the field of medical bioanalysis, followed by a Master's degree programme. Graduates of pharmacy and bioanalysis will find employment not only in the Czech Republic but also in other EU countries.

The management of the various faculties considers it necessary to gradually move the operations of the two faculties to a joint campus, interconnecting them with other FN workplaces and anticipating the prospective establishment, activities and functions of the campus of two closely oriented (teaching and research) faculties and university hospitals.

THE TRAINING AND RESEARCH CENTRE IS THE FIRST BUILDING OF THE NEW UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

The ceremonial opening of the building took place in early October 2015. The centre is designed for teaching and research activities of four institutes and departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Charles University and the Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University. However, in terms of teaching, all students of both faculties will use the building.

The technical equipment of the building is designed with respect to future low operating costs.

As part of this project, AV MEDIA a.s. provided all the AV equipment, including the equipment of the large and small lecture halls, all the seminar rooms and classrooms as well as the technology of the Pharmacy Training Simulator. In accordance with current technical trends, fully digital AV distribution was used in all rooms to ensure perfect picture and sound.

The large lecture hall is equipped with two widescreen projections that allow teachers to view two different images for a better illustrative nature from two sources, such as a presentation and a photo or video. Projection is provided by two powerful Full HD Panasonic projectors on special Projecta electric screens with side-projecting screens with built-in tubing. Due to the requirement for high projected resolutions that require a maximum of equal screens, it was necessary to choose side projection offsets. When selecting the screen size for this room, it was necessary to take into account the maximum viewing distance and the clear height of the room (it was necessary to choose a compromise between the screen size, observation angles and distance). The proposed dimension of the 340 × 216 cm canvas is as large as possible according to the given height of the lecture hall. Because it was not possible to use a higher screen than 330 cm high and due to the ergonomic principles, we had to add four more displays to cover the observation distance of the last six rows. These are Full HD LCD Panasonic displays hanging under the ceiling on solid ceiling mounts to tilt the display towards the viewer. Twenty built-in speakers and a total of nine microphones took care of the perfect sound quality of the lecture hall. The large atypical lecture room is equipped with the SMART Podium SP524 interactive presentation display, multiple access points, a touch panel of the AMX control system for easy AV control, a Wolfvision desk viewer, and a sliding speaker counter. In order to obtain quick feedback, the hall is equipped with a portable voting system for 340 people. Voting participants press the answer button on the wireless controller and the voting results are instantly displayed in the presentation in the form of clear graphs. The voting results can then be saved, exported to Excel statistics, or stored in PDF, for example.

The hall has a Mediasite camera and recording system for synchronized recording of the lecturer and his presentation. The final recording of the lecture can then be accessed through the school network to students for preparing for the exam or revising the curriculum. The system also has the possibility of transmitting live lectures to a web player or a data link to a smaller lecture hall.

The small lecture hall has the same AV technology control system as well as the interactive presentation display SMART Podium and Wolfvision visualizer installed in the department. The hall is smaller and therefore is equipped only with one widescreen projection. The sound system of the lecture hall is designed with nine built-in speakers and a microphone system. Preparing two cameras used for recording, transmission and eventually for videoconferencing in the lecture hall is planned. There is also a voting system for 110 participants. Both lecture halls are equipped with an inductive loop for hearing loss.

Seminar rooms, classrooms and laboratories. In these rooms, one central projection with a 16:10 aspect ratio is designed using a Full HD projector on an electric Projecta built into the ceiling. The canvas is designed with dimensions to maximally cover the observation distances in the hall. The projection is complemented by stereo sound optimized for the spoken word. All departments are equipped with connectors to provide more comfortable access to the lecturers like the SMART Podium SP524 interactive presentation display, which allows you to control the presentation, write notes directly or mark important points. Everything that the lecturer creates on the touch panel is displayed concurrently on the installed screens. Each room also has a button control system for controlling AV technology from one location in the department. Selected rooms also feature a Wolfvision visualizer for scanning printed documents, transparencies, or smaller items.

In the library and common rooms are 50” LED TVs with integrated WIDI technology for wirelessly transmitting images from laptops to the TVs.

The Student practice room is 2 separate rooms, which can be combined into one large room by a mobile partition. They serve as a practical lab, and teachers have two widescreen Full HD projections on built-in electrical screens to provide students with educational information. The sound is provided by two sets of speakers. Both rooms have a wall-mounted connection point for connecting the presentation computer. We also find an interactive SMART Podium presentation display that allows you to control the presentation using an electronic pen or add notes directly to the projected image

The Pharmacy Trainer is a room where future pharmacists can try out real situation in the pharmacy. There are two panoramic and zoomable Axis cameras including software for managing and controlling them that monitor the student progress in delivering medications and providing information to patients. The scanned image is transmitted to the adjacent so-called Evaluation Room, where  the image from IP cameras tis transmitted to a SMART Board 6065 interactive display with integrated speakers and mini PCs displays teaching students with the possibility of direct drawing and writing annotations on the image.
