Virtual Museum

We met in a virtual space and together with our guests we discussed new trends and inspirations in the field of museums

To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease, we had to move the inspirational meetings we planned for this year. And so, in cooperation with the Czech Association of Museums and Galleries, we prepared a pilot conference called “Virtual Museum”, which could be attended from the safety and comfort of home.

Together with our partners and guests, we asked ourselves the question of what to do when museums are closed and how to move these activities forward until museums are open to visitors again.

The conference took place under the baton of experienced moderator Viktor Plass, who welcomed live as well as remote guests to the studio. First, Ms. Irena Chovančíková, Chairperson of the Czech Association of Museums and Galleries, took the floor and welcomed the conference participants. This was followed by an interview with scenographer Ivo Plass, who, among other things, presented the project of the Labyrinth of the History of the Czech Lands exhibition at the Prague Castle. Martina Bernátová and Andrea Slaná of the Považské Museum in Žilina presented a project of a modern exhibition at the Strečno Castle. With Michal Novák and Michal Kuběnský, we uncovered the art of lighting design and with Vladimír Martinec we tried some tricks with guide systems. Eva Novotná of the Dačický House in Kutná Hora told us how to connect a visit to a museum exhibition with school education, and Jan Buriánek presented us with a ‘virtual museum’ project.

With the conference, we started a programme of seminars on the topic of virtual tours of exhibitions and digitization, lighting design and architecture, foreign inspiration, news in the field of audiovisual interpretation and the operating system for managing exhibitions.

We were pleasantly surprised by the great interest in the conference. It was attended by 240 ‘virtual visitors’.
